Share your link
Share your link without becoming that friend.
Referral links work best between people who trust each other. Here's how to keep it that way.
Do and don't
Do
- Share it with people who'd actually use the thing.
- Say plainly that you get something too.
- Tell them the catch you already know about.
- Check where the program lets you post it.
Don't
- Post it anywhere the terms ban. Many programs ban coupon and deal sites.
- Open extra accounts to refer yourself. It breaks the terms and can cancel every reward you've earned.
- Promise anything the program doesn't.
- Send it again after someone's said no.
Posting it publicly
If you get a reward when people use your link, the Federal Trade Commission expects you to say so when you post about it publicly. Put it in the post itself, in plain words. A tag lost in a pile of hashtags at the end doesn't count as telling anyone.
A message that doesn't feel like spam
Swap in the real details. The parts in brackets are yours to fill.
I've used [the service] for [how long] and I like it. If you sign up with my link, you get [their reward] and I get [your reward]. The catch: [the catch]. No pressure either way.
